Diary Cover

I whipped up this little A5 diary cover for our niece who has just left to go overseas for a year.... I thought it might be a nice keepsake to remember everything she does while in America.

I appliqued her initials on the front to make it more personal and used a layer of plastic over the top to protect it....I kept the rest nice and simple.

I hope she finds it useful.

Oops....Missed one!

Here's another little journal cover that I made for my favorite "Mother-in-law" for Mother's Day.... I forgot to take a picture of it at the time which meant I couldn't post about it!

As with the Mother's day pressie for my Mum... it's to record their travels in their caravan.

She loved it!

After lacking interest for the last couple of weeks, I think I'm actually motivated to do a bit of sewing this weekend and have my dear friend Jo coming for a sewing night/sleepover tomorrow night so should have some new show and tell for you soon.

I can't believe I'm almost up to my 100th post already..... who would have thought I'd have so much to write about?? Guess I'll have to start thinking about a giveaway soon to celebrate!

Mothers Day Sewing

Just before Christmas my Mum and Dad bought themselves a caravan, and when I made this needlecase a while ago Mum hinted that it would be handy to have one in the caravan for when they are away on long trips. So this is what i've come up with for Mother's Day:

A covered journal for her to record all their trips in:

I used Natalie Bird's "From the Heart" pattern book for the stitchery

And a little zippered sewing pouch, complete with sewing goodies and a mini needle-case:

I modified Bloom's Journal cover tutorial for the journal, and used this tutorial from Twelve22 for the zippered pouch. The fabric I used was leftover from a quilt I made years ago (and for the life of me I can't remember what on earth it's called):

I think Mum is going to love her pressie.... lets just hope she doesn't decide to read my blog in the meantime!

Are you sick of seeing my journal covers yet????

I decided to make the Bloom Journal covers a tad bigger to fit a diary for both children's teachers this year..... very happy with how they turned out!

While I was at it.... I finished another three journal's for one of my friends children for Christmas as they have been such a huge hit with Miss 10's friends!

Plus one for our beautiful neighbour..... And two more just in case!I think i'm done making Journal covers for now! And I only have one more pressie to make before Christmas...... finally feel like i'm getting somewhere!

I've got Mum Sewing!

Today i spent some time teaching Mum how to make these lovely journal covers using the tutorial at Bloom.

I don't often get to sew with Mum as it's not really her 'thing'..... so it was lovely to spend the day with her doing something I love (She even admitted it was fun!).


The lovely Martha from Princess Martha suggested making them out of denim and even had her hubby deliver some to me when i didn't have any in my stash......and what a great result!

A Gift for Maddy

This morning Miss ten and I set to work to make a birthday pressie for one of her friends...... nothing like leaving things till the last minute! Miss ten had been working on a stitchery from Anni Downs book "simple Pleasures" over the last couple of days which we appliqued to the front of the Journal cover. To assemble the cover we used a tutorial from Bloom for the basic instructions and measurements although we did change a few things to achieve the result Miss ten was after.
It was very easy to assemble and much less bulky than ones i've made in the past...... which means there will be plenty more to make before Christmas comes around. We were both very pleased with how it turned out and hope that Maddy likes it as much as we do.
