A Quilt for Linda

There’s a gorgeous lady that I work with who has been battling with her health for the last little while. All of us that work with her were keen to do something to let her know just how much she is missed and loved in our office so we decided to make her a quilt. Since most of the ladies I work with aren’t quilters, at times this meant stitchery lessons in the office…. which our boss was very lenient with. 

We decided on a pattern I had sewn a couple of times before - ‘Friendship’s heart by The Birdhouse’ with a few changes to the wording to make it more appropriate. We also changed the Cat block to dogs which Linda loves and used Hatched and Patched drawings for inspiration.

 

 We backed it in flannel so that it would be nice and cosy and personalised it with a special message.  

We’re all so thrilled to have Linda well again and back at work!

A quilt for Graham

I recently helped my dear friend, Cath and her family create this ‘blokey’ quilt for her father-in-law, Graham, who sadly is terminally ill. Cath chose flannels from the ‘Woolies by Bonnie Sullivan and Maywood Studio’ range which were just perfect for this project and combined with the ‘Shaggy’ quilt pattern made a lovely cosy quilt.  We also added in some white flannel, which not only lifted the quilt but gave the family a place to stitch a personal message on a couple of the blocks. 

The quilt was made over a weekend with the whole family including Mum, Dad & all five children (ranging from as young as 4 to 17) contributing to the process.

It was a very special project and I’m pleased to say it was absolutely loved by Graham when they gave it to him. The younger children especially delighted in pointing out which bits they’d had a hand in.

Baby Quilt 2 is finished

Well I'm pleased to say that Baby Quilt no.2 is now finished (we wont talk about baby quilt no.1).... not much else happening in the sewing department of late.... things have just been crazy busy!

I love how this quilt turned out -

although it's not a patch on my gorgeous new nephew, Reid... isn't he just adorable?

And then there's his big sister too.... cute as!!!

Baby Quilt 2

The second quilt in the bunch of Charm square baby quilts I'm making is for my new Nephew, Reid who arrived a little earlier than expected....

I've used 'Pure' by Sweetwater for this one which I've had in my stash for a while.

Baby Quilt 1

I now have the first quilt top together for the five Upsized Charm Square baby quilts that I'm making .... I'm hoping to get all five of them to this stage as soon as I can and then I'll applique the names on them as the babies arrive.

Champion quilt

This jelly roll race quilt was made by Miss 14 from a very special jelly roll that had belonged to my Aunty Linda. She was delighted that it earnt her a champion ribbon at the local show recently which certainly made the very late night beforehand when she was madly stitching the binding down worth the rush.

They're not colours I would normally use for a quilt but they look great don't they?

Chevron Quilt

Another finish from our Quilting retreat..... Chevron Quilt top!

Not the best pictures... I always have trouble photographing white quilts

I think I saw a picture of one of these on Pinterest. No instructions I just pieced it together from two Heather Bailley "Fresh Cut" - 6" charm sqare packs and some white homespun... very easy, although some of those points did give me a little grief. I think it was worth it :)

Now I just have to find some backing and send it off to the quilters.

Friendship Quilt Completed

So..... have I kept you waiting long enough?

Here it is all ready to go for quilting

and after a hastily stitched binding and label -

We travelled to Port Stephens for a surprise weekend away with a few other families at Port Stephens where we all spoilt my beautiful friend for her 40th birthday..... she was blown away with everyone's thoughtfulness and had the best time with oodles of great company, flowers, cake & chocolate!

And of course her new quilt

not the best pics.... just when I thought I was starting to master my new camera too!

I had to enlarge this one for you to see so it's a bit blurry..... but it seems someone got a bit hungry and helped himself to some chocolate.... Hmmm, I wonder how that happened? Pretty sure Miss 4 had nothing to do with it, lol (Trish was horrified). 

I hope Trish enjoys her quilt as much as I loved making it for her - I'm told it has been tried and tested and given the thumbs up for afternoon Nanna naps! Perfect!

Friendship Quilt

Do you remember this sneak peak I showed you back in this post ?

I'm pleased to say that the surprise quilt is now finished and was gifted to my dear friend a couple of weeks ago ... a bit slow with my post yet again, Ooops!

Just to drag it out a little longer (because I can and because I know you all love the anticipation) I'm not going to show you the finished quilt just yet.

I will show you all the finished blocks ready to put together after a frantic two weeks of stiching though!



It's not the first one of these quilts I've made and I just love these blocks.... Perfect for a special friend!

For Aunty Lin

I'm very pleased to finally show you this quilt completed.... I finished the top back here almost two years ago now and have only just put the finishing touches on it this Easter weekend. In my defense, it was at the quilters for over eight months but I had said I wasn't in a hurry for it (I think I was dreading all those fiddly yo-yo flowers).

The quilt was started by my beautiful Aunt, who passed away with it incomplete.

I finished the top and had it quilted, then Mum and I did the bind together and I sewed the yo-yo's and buttons on.... Nice that all three of us worked on it which makes it even more special to my Mum, who treasures it.

The dreaded yo-yo flowers!

I'm sure my Aunty Lin would have had a great laugh watching me make all those yo-yo's.... she tried to get me to do them for her before she became ill but I declined. I told her I would teach her how and then she could do them herself..... looks like she won that one! Makes me smile everytime I look at them now.

Jelly Roll Race quilt finshed

Another quilt finished.... took me a little longer to get the bind finished on this one but I got there eventually.

Again the quilter used a swirly pattern which I just love....

This one is actually for me.... I love the colours and it matches perfectly in our bedroom!
