Friendship Quilt Completed

So..... have I kept you waiting long enough?

Here it is all ready to go for quilting
and after a hastily stitched binding and label -

We travelled to Port Stephens for a surprise weekend away with a few other families at Port Stephens where we all spoilt my beautiful friend for her 40th birthday..... she was blown away with everyone's thoughtfulness and had the best time with oodles of great company, flowers, cake & chocolate!

And of course her new quilt
not the best pics.... just when I thought I was starting to master my new camera too!

I had to enlarge this one for you to see so it's a bit blurry..... but it seems someone got a bit hungry and helped himself to some chocolate.... Hmmm, I wonder how that happened? Pretty sure Miss 4 had nothing to do with it, lol (Trish was horrified).

I hope Trish enjoys her quilt as much as I loved making it for her - I'm told it has been tried and tested and given the thumbs up for afternoon Nanna naps! Perfect!

Friendship Quilt

Do you remember this sneak peak I showed you back in this post ?

I'm pleased to say that the surprise quilt is now finished and was gifted to my dear friend a couple of weeks ago ... a bit slow with my post yet again, Ooops!

Just to drag it out a little longer (because I can and because I know you all love the anticipation) I'm not going to show you the finished quilt just yet.

I will show you all the finished blocks ready to put together after a frantic two weeks of stiching though!

It's not the first one of these quilts I've made and I just love these blocks.... Perfect for a special friend!

For Aunty Lin

I'm very pleased to finally show you this quilt completed.... I finished the top back here almost two years ago now and have only just put the finishing touches on it this Easter weekend. In my defense, it was at the quilters for over eight months but I had said I wasn't in a hurry for it (I think I was dreading all those fiddly yo-yo flowers).

The quilt was started by my beautiful Aunt, who passed away with it incomplete.
I finished the top and had it quilted, then Mum and I did the bind together and I sewed the yo-yo's and buttons on.... Nice that all three of us worked on it which makes it even more special to my Mum, who treasures it.

The dreaded yo-yo flowers!
I'm sure my Aunty Lin would have had a great laugh watching me make all those yo-yo's.... she tried to get me to do them for her before she became ill but I declined. I told her I would teach her how and then she could do them herself..... looks like she won that one! Makes me smile everytime I look at them now.

Sock Critter Madness

What started as a Sock Monkey craze for Miss 13 (Little Miss Thimble) has now turned in to a critter craze with the purchase of a couple of great sock sewing books:

This one was made as a birthday pressie for one of her friends and you can read about it on her blog here.

More monkeys... this time made with baby socks...so cute!

A Cheshire cat, hippo, lochness moster & rabbit.... can't wait to see what she makes next!
The plan is to make a bunch of them to sell at the coffee shop where she works.

Until next time

Jelly Roll Race quilt finshed

Another quilt finished.... took me a little longer to get the bind finished on this one but I got there eventually.
The link to the instructions etc can be found on my earlier post here.

Again the quilter used a swirly pattern which I just love....

This one is actually for me.... I love the colours and it matches perfectly in our bedroom!

Until next time

Our 18th Anniversary

Look what was waiting for me on my desk at work last Monday morning......
flowers from Hubby - aren't they lovely!

Since our anniversary was on a Monday this year and we'd only been out to our favourite restaurant two days beforehand to celebrate my Dad's 60th, we decided we would stay home this year instead of having our usual dinner out. Sooo...... Miss 13 conspired with Master 10 (yes... they worked together... I'm still in shock over that!) and they planned to cook us dinner at home instead. They did absolutely everything by themselves from the planning to the shopping and preparing.... we had menus, a waiter and dined alfresco surrounded by fairy lights and candles.... it was just perfect!

Entree' - Chicken and chorizo croquettes with garlic aioli

Main - Spinach and ricotta Chicken wrapped in bacon
and served with garlic sweet potato mash & asparagus

Dessert - Churros with caramel sauce

It was all so delicious and we were blown away by the presentation and quality of food they prepared, especially when they hadn't cooked any of these dishes before.... so proud!

Birthdays

Last Saturday night we Surprised my Dad with a small dinner at our favourite restaurant to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his 40th birthday....ahem

He's not really one for being celebrated but he had a great night.... I can't believe he's 60.... I used to think that was really old once but Dad certainly doesn't seem it.

Yummy carrot cake with cream cheese frosting... made by me!

Only the week beforehand, we celebrated with Mum for her birthday.... just us this time but an excuse to make another cake. I've been wanting to try making an ombre cake for a while now... they look so good!

Until next time
