A busy fortnight

I've stitched so much in the last two weeks that my fingers have been almost continually numb.... unfortunately I can only give you a sneak peak at this stage as I don't want to ruin the surprise!

As well as stitching I've made almost three dozen jars of Green Tomato Pickles.
These are a favourite in our household..... Yummo!

Hard to believe tomatoes this green could taste good isn't it??

I also made a delicious carrot cake with cream cheese icing for one of my husbands workers who has now retired..... we had a bit of a send-off for him last Saturday night.
I was very pleased with how it turned out (my icing skills are definately improving.... Yay me!).

A little something for me

I don't make a lot of clothing (especially for myself) as I'm often disappointed with the result and they get shoved in the back of the cupboard and never see the light of day. Not the case with this blouse which I wore on Australia Day last weekend......

The pattern was the Diane Kimono Dress from Serendiptiy Studios which I bought here.... I made the tunic length but I now have plans to make a couple of knee length ones which will be perfect for our next beach holiday! The pattern was very well written and my shirt went together beautifully with no stress (gotta love that).

And who's Australia Day would be complete without a lamington feast?
I made this cake using the recipe here....Mine doesn't look as pretty but it was delicious!

Until next time....

Jelly Roll Race Quilt

It's been so hot here over the last couple of weeks the only thing I've had the energy to do is sew....... everything else is just too much bother!

This Jelly-roll race quilt has now been sent off for quilting .... along with the quilt I made for Miss 13 way back in May last year. I can't believe it took me all that time just to put a plain white border on and join the backing!  How slack am I, seriously??

I used the instructions from 'Crafty Garden Mom' here (only I joined my strips on the bias) and armed with a Jelly roll of 'Pure' by Sweetwater I had the top together in a couple of hours.

This pattern was a perfect choice as the jelly roll was given to me as a gift by someone special - I loved the fabrics and didn't want to cut them up into tiny pieces where the writing and patterns would be lost.

Anyway.... I love how this top has turned out and will definitely make another one at some stage.

A4 Art Folder Tutorial - Finally!

Thanks to the lovely Suz from Patchwork and Play who was nice enough to trial the instructions for me (you should see her version on her blog shortly) and has given me the thumbs up..... I'm now happy to share my tutorial with you.

After struggling to get it to display properly in a post, I decided to go with a .pdf version instead.

And of course..... if you attempt one I would love to see it!

Edited 09/02/13 to add -

The Missing Santa Stocking

While visiting my brother-in-law and his family recently I was able to take a photo of the first Santa stocking I made for their children. Another project that never got photographed at the time.

Since making this one about 8 years ago, I have now made another three for Hannah's brothers, Toby's here, Tully's here & or course, most recently Lewis' here.

Don't they look great all lined up together!

A Quilt for my Brother

While on our travels I came across this quilt at my brother's place..... I made it for him quite a few years ago but never thought to take photos of it at the time since I wasn't a blogger at that stage.

I remember when he first told me he wanted a checkerboard quilt how boring I thought it would be... I couldn't help putting a patterned fabric on the back (which makes you go cross-eyed if you look at it for too long, lol). Surprisingly, I really liked the end result. It's a huge quilt and I struggled to quilt it all in-the-ditch but it was well worth the effort - my brother loved it!
