Challenge Accomplished!

On Christmas day last year I started reading Twilight.... not because it was something I was all that interested in but because I wanted to see what all the hype was about and I wanted to check it out before I let my 11 year old read it. To be honest, I thought I'd hate it so you can imagine my surprise when I thoroughly enjoyed it and finished all four books in the series in about two weeks! It was nice to make time to read again which is something I haven't done much of since having children. I decided to challenge myself to see how many books I could read in the year and promptly gave up watching TV of an evening in favour of reading...... I started out thinking 20 books in a year would be great but a couple of months into my reading challenge I set the number at 50, and last night I started reading book no.51!

My sister has been my main influence for the change in the type of books I've been reading and she thinks it's hilarious that she has me reading all sorts of supernatural fiction these days and a lot of what I've read has been young adult fiction which has really surprised me..... if you'd like to know more about any of these books you can check them out on my Goodreads page here.

I would also love to hear what great books you've been reading and welcome any recommendations as my to-read pile is getting quite low now!

Until next time.......

  1. Yay you reached your goal!!!!! Unfortunately i wont reach 50 but am happy to have made it past 30 :)

  2. Wow, you sound like me. It all started with twilight. Also my sisters influence, and I have read a few on your list as well. Congratulations on reaching your goal and going beyond it.

  3. Its amazing what can happen when the tv & the computer is off....I can go without but the computer has to stay so I can see what my buddies are up to...Might have to do the school reading challange with the kidlets.

  4. Well done on the reading list! I have kept a list of books read for the last eight years or so (and a list of films viewed!) and each year try to beat my previous year. But sometimes life gets in the way and I do watch TV as well! I'm not much into the 'supernatural' genre though; give me a good thriller by Michael Connelly or Jonathon Kellerman any day!

  5. well done on achieving your goal! I make a little time to read in bed each night. The best book I've read recently is The Time-Travellers Wife, you should give that a go.

  6. Wow, that is seriously impressive! I've tried to read a bit more this year too, but can't match your success! Thanks for the list. I will come back to this next time I don't know what to read. Ros x

  7. Wow Tracy...amazing over 50 books!!! You are an avid reader!!! I can spy City of Bones in there LOL...Dzintra♥x

  8. Happy to see lots of mine in there! I will send u some more soon lol

  9. Congratulations...and great selection! I've read to the end of the series of all the ones I've started...still waiting on both Kate's and Patterson's next installments, but I'm jonesin for something new. I put all the authors that I've read this past year into Google and up comes this wonderful list, hope you don't mind if I borrow from it. :-) Surprised that "The Host - Stephanie Meyer" isn't on that list. My sister-in-law left it at my house, wife was out, I was bored, nothing on TV. The very book that rekindled my interest in reading. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for your comments...... It's nice to know i'm not just talking to myself!
