Kids Show Creations - Hobbit House Cake

This cake just blows me away….. and thejudges must have like it too, since it took out first place in the open Noveltycake section!
Made entirely by Miss 15 for the show (shehas so much more patience than I do) – entirely her own design and every bit isedible, from grass to fence posts.
She started with a large rectangular cakefor the base and used a round cake which she cut in half and sandwichedtogether for the ‘house’. The rest is all icing…. So clever!

It even has a stone pattern on the icingwall and timber on the door, window and fence!

And amazing little hand-made vegetables inthe garden bed!

The grass was done using a special pipingtip.

Miss 15 also entered lots of other cookingand did very well…. She ended up with a Champion ribbon for her chocolate cakeand overall junior champion exhibitor.

Elf Wallhanging

25/08/14

I love this little stitchery I made using the pattern by Natalie Bird for The Birdhouse called Making Spirits Bright.

Stitched in gorgeous variegated thread by Cottage Garden Threads and framed in fabric from the ‘Countdown to Christmas’ range by Sweetwater for Moda.

Just the thing to add a little Christmas cheer around the house – and I actually got it done well before Christmas (I’m not going to tell you that the almost complete stitchery has actually been sitting in my UFO pile for the last year or two…. lol).

Cooking Competition and My New Baby

I made this delicious Melt & Mix Triple Choc Layer Cake for this months Taste Magazines ‘Cook the Cover’ competition – it was fun to make and a beautiful cake (to eat) but unfortunately wasn’t good enough to win me the coveted Kitchen Aid mixer that I’ve been drooling over for some time.

What I didn’t know at time, was that my thoughtful husband had been secretly paying off a kitchen aid which he brought home shortly after I entered the competition as a ‘just because’ present…. Needless to say, I was a bit gob-smacked!

Isn’t she pretty???

She doesn't match a thing in my kitchen but she'll look just lovely when we finally get around to building our new house and my dream kitchen!!

Minecraft Cupcakes

23/07/14

I have two dozen of these little beauties all ready to go off to class for Master 12’s birthday today – for the first time he hadn’t actually put his order in for something special so I was able to surprise him with a Minecraft theme…. He loved them!

I found the cute little cake toppers and wrappers on Etsy. They were available for instant download and were super easy to print out and assemble myself (I purchased mine from PartyPrintz & Amandacreation).

It’s a bit sad to think that this is the last year I’ll be making cupcakes to take to class – I’m pretty sure that Mum bringing in Birthday cupcakes won’t be very welcome in High School next year!

Absent again

It's been brought to my attention (many times) that I've become a very slack blogger (love you Jo!). My slackness apparently makes it very difficult for stalkers who like to know what I'm up to.

With this in mind... I'm going to attempt to become a better blogger and to update you on what I've been up to over the past almost twelve months. It's not that I haven't managed to squeeze in any sewing, I just haven't gotten myself organised enough to write about it. Sometimes the last thing I want to do after working in front of a computer all day is to come home and play on the computer some more, so please forgive me if my posts are brief and more about the photos than anything else.

I originally started my blog more as a record for myself, to keep track of all the things I've made and mostly given away. To keep some semblance of order, I will backdate my coming posts to the relevant time.

Thanks to those of you who are still checking in even after all this time.
Watch this space!!!
